Skoda Slavia Review: How is the Performance with the 1.0-liter Engine?

The Volkswagen Group has invested crores of rupees for the India 2.0 Projector and with this investment has generated the MQB A0-IN platform, which is based on the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. Now the Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus built on the same platform are going to be seen on Indian roads and out of these, the 1.0-liter petrol engine of Skoda Slavia has been launched,

First of all, if we talk about the design, then Skoda Slavia looks very cute in appearance. Just as Octavia used to look big, so is Slavia. The grille and headlamps look very beautiful on it and the chrome seems to enhance its premium look. The L-shaped DRLs give a unique look to the new Slavia and get 16-inch wheels across all the variants. The sloping roofline is seen enhancing the overall look of this sedan. You can also see Chrome Elements in the side profile. At the rear, you will get to see C-shaped LED tail lamps and Skoda badging on the boot lid. However, you will not be able to get information about which variant it is.

Skoda Slavia measures 4541 mm in length, 1752 mm in width, 1507 mm in height and 2651 mm in wheelbase. Apart from this, a ground clearance of 179 mm is available. Let us tell you that the Slavia has the highest ground clearance in this segment and due to this, this vehicle also gives you a better drive experience. Even though it is 8 mm shorter than the Honda City in length, it is the largest in terms of width, height, and wheelbase.

What’s special about the interior?
As soon as you come into the interior of the Skoda Slavia, you get to see a completely premium feel here. There is a lot of headroom and shoulder room available. The seats are also quite comfortable and the front seats are ventilated. In the center, you get a 10.1-inch touchscreen system that gives you all the information. Not only this, this infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In the smaller variants, you will get a 7-inch touchscreen system. Apart from this, you get an 8-inch digital instrument cluster whose theme you can change as per your wish. Apart from this, the company has given an electric sunroof and connected car technology in it. For a premium feel, you will also get a sub-woofer with 8 speakers in the top model of Slavia which has a total output of 380W. The quality of this sound system is really great. Although, It does not get a 360-degree parking camera and electrically adjustable drive seats. Not only this, the resolution or camera of the parking camera also appears to be of poor quality. Coming to the rear seats, you get to see a lot of space here. The rear seats are also quite comfortable. Even for a tall person, there is enough legroom and headroom to be found here. Three people can easily sit in the back. One can see AC vents on the rear seats as well as 2 Type C USB ports. Due to the large glass area, you also get a good view sitting inside and the cabin does not look less than a big room.

Safety features
The company has also done a great job in the new Slavia in terms of safety. It includes 6 airbags, an anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, electronic brake-force distribution, multi-collision brakes, traction control system, electronic differential lock, rain and light sensors, tire pressure monitoring system, hill hold control, ISOFIX child seats, and more. Brake disc wiping is being provided. Apart from this, the best part is that the person sitting in the middle of the rear seats also gets a three-point seat belt. In terms of boot space, you get 521 liters of boot space and if you drop the rear seats, you will get 1050 liters of boot space.

Engine and performance
We have previously run the 1.0-liter TSI petrol engine of the Skoda Slavia. Apart from this, 1.5-liter TSI also comes with a petrol engine, but you will get its separate review soon. This 1000 cc turbocharged engine gives the power of 114 bhp. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter unit. We only went with the manual variant in which you get a clutch with more travel, but it feels quite light. This can give you some trouble in heavy traffic. However, shifting gears is quite easy and fast. You can shift gears with the least effort ie one finger, Which is pretty cool. Talking about its ride and handling, the Slavia gives you a lot of comforts and it does a great job on rough roads. Steering response is also good and you do not see much weight in it. Keeps your confidence on sharp cornering. The vehicle responds well on highways too and if you like to drive decently then the 1.0-liter petrol engine from the Slavia will really please you.

Price and Verdict
Skoda has kept the starting price of the 1.0 liter variant of its Slavia at Rs 10.69 lakh, which goes up to Rs 15.39 lakh. The base variant costs less than the 5th generation Honda City but is about Rs 1 lakh more expensive than the Hyundai Verna. The top-end automatic model is even more expensive than the Honda City. If seen, Skoda Slavia is proving to be a really premium sedan with this price tag, and the superior performance, space, and comfort of the 1.0-liter engine will not let you down.
