Magnite SUV has been able to carry the weight of Japan’s leading automaker Nissan (Nissan) in the Indian market for some time now. The Nissan Magnite SUV was launched in India in December 2020. Launched as the most affordable subcompact SUV at that time, Nissan has garnered around 78,000 cumulative customer bookings to date. Apart from this, the company has said that the model is being exported to 15 countries from the production plant in Chennai, and 42,000 units of this affordable SUV have been manufactured so far.
A ‘do or die product’
Magnite Nissan was seen as one of the company’s products in India on which the company’s future rests. Most of the company’s previous models like Terrano and Sunny did not get much response in the Indian market. It is also significant that Nissan also did not instill much confidence in sales and service, which was a big hurdle. But while Nissan claims it has worked to improve its customer connect across the country, the Magnite itself rests heavily on the company.
The affordable SUV
will initially ‘shock’ the segment due to the competitive pricing of Magnite. The Magnite was launched for less than Rs 5 lakh for the base variant. However, later its prices have been changed. Currently, the ex-showroom price of Magnite starts at Rs. 5.76 lakhs and goes up to a little over Rs. 10 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the higher variants.
